The ukulele is a four stringed instrument which originated from Hawaii during the 19th century. Originally created in one size it has evolved into 4 different sizes which are, soprano, concert, tenor and baritone, with soprano being the most common size. The bigger the ukulele, the deeper the sound it produces. It is generally preferred to start out with the soprano if you’re just starting out on the instrument. It’s cheaper, lighter and produces that familiar twangy sound we love.
Some people might consider ukulele as a toy rather than an instrument because of it’s size, but the truth is, this innocent looking instrument has made it into the mainstream media.
